Founded in 1958, having a long history and profound culture, gathering the earliest experts and scholars in metallurgy and metal materials processing in the early years of liberation during the early established period, the school of Metallurgical Engineering was the only one of Metallurgical Science and Metal Material Processing with complete disciplines set in northwest China in 1950s, and also one of the national key science and education bases of Metallurgical and Metal Materials Processing.

The discipline of metallurgical engineering is the key discipline in Shaanxi Province, while, the subject of metallurgical engineering is the famous brand and characteristic specialty in Shaanxi Province, and is included in the first batch of national outstanding engineer training program.
